Step 1 — Treat what you haveRecord facing soft material — a wardrobe, curtains, a duvet behind the mic. Turn off fans and fridges.Proof: Noise floor sits at or below −60 dBFS in a 5-second silent test.
Step 2 — Set distance and angleOne hand-span from the capsule, slightly off-axis so plosives pass the side of the microphone.Proof: No clipping on your loudest line, and no popping on words starting with P or B.
Step 3 — Set the gain, not the volumeSpeak your loudest line and raise input until peaks land around −6 dBFS. Never record to the ceiling.Proof: Peaks between −9 and −3 dBFS with headroom left for the master.
